The Enugu Photo Festival is a platform designed to showcase the work of photographers, visual artists, and storytellers, with a focus on telling the stories of Eastern Nigeria's rich culture, history, and lifestyle. We are a community that thrives on knowledge sharing, skill-building, and connecting with local communities to contribute to their development while fostering collaboration with the global creative community. For this inaugural edition of the Enugu Photo Festival, we have chosen the theme "Shades of Coal" to explore Enugu’s coal mining history. This edition will delve into the impact of coal on the socio-economic and cultural landscape of the region, from the early days of mining to the 1949 Iva Valley Massacre, and its role in Nigeria’s fight for independence.
